The sound of a Coo is very special.
And if we really take time to hear,
We will soon learn about the world you see
And how to you it may appear.
So listen very closely when your baby starts to coo.
They are telling you about the wonders of life, which to them are very new.

This heartwarming and expressive collection of poems perfectly captures the way babies first experience their environment. Sounds of a Coo features poems that celebrate the magic and wonder of a baby’s world, and help us focus on the way our babies communicate. So cuddle up with your little one and share the rhythmical language of poetry. Your baby will enjoy it as much as you do!

Sounds of a Coo edition by Kelly Lambert Children eBooks Reviews

Kelly Lambert comes to the writing of this book for children and adults with impressive credentials. Though this is her debut novel she has studied the material she so gently shapes into a book with her experience in Child Development and Family Studies. Not only has she come up with an original idea - having an infant express the daily new discoveries that coming out of the womb bring in the words of adults so that the expressions feel and sound more real than those indefinable coo sounds infants make before words can be formed - but she also has partnered with a very fine illustrator - Izebela Ciesinska - who provides excellent visuals and very, very wisely makes every child on every page different in looks and in various ethnic and racial backgrounds. Long sentence of praise but the basis for the success of this book needs to be punctuated.

There is no linear story here, another feature that makes this book one that can be read to a child a few pages at a time and not lose momentum. Instead each page with a new child and parent and visuals describes a feeling, a discovery, a recognition of something in the world that just occurs to nascent eyes. Topics covered in well constructed poems include Mommy and Daddy (the baby shares the excitement of a mobile overhead but is happiest when the sounds of parent's voices are heard), to experiencing the wonders of rain, of sunsets, of the fascination with what the hands can do, with food, cousins, baths, sleeping cats (!), snowflakes, trips in the car, light bulbs, the depth of love felt in a rocking chair and with grandparents, stars, teddy bears, Daddy, Mommy, and most of all the love of a family. Hearing (or reading) these discoveries in sweet expressive adult word poems makes the reader appreciate afresh all the joys that the new world brings to a child - and reminds us just how beautiful the simple approach to life can indeed be through the eyes of a child.

This is a superb little book in every aspect and one that not only belongs on every child's nightstand, but also as gifts for new parents and for grandparents and well, families in general. Grady Harp, August 12
Sounds Of A Coo has a poem on every other page giving the readers twenty poems that fill a 7 x 10 page from top to bottom with precious words that your baby would surely say to you if they could. Instead we hear precious sounds of a coo telling you about what draw his or her attention. Like your smile or a star in the sky. Maybe they wish to tell you about their first interaction with the family pet. Are the amazing description at the sight of their first snowfall. All of this in the Sounds Of A Coo.

The illustrations are so amazing! The babies depicted in this book of poems are beyond adorable and the adult are gorgeous. The colors are bold yet soothing. The illustrator compliments the author's writing with his talent of illustrations.

I can't wait to share "SOUNDS OF A COO" with friends and family, especially my grown daughters and their children.

There is no doubt in my mind that readers of this book will also want to share this book with their friends and family.

It will be a keepsake in my home and hopefully in yours also!

Disclosure
I received a free copy of this book from the author/Kelly Lambert for review. I was in no way compensated for this review. It is my own opinion.
When a new baby is brought home for the first time we might wonder what they are thinking about the world around them. The "Sounds of a Coo" bring to life and help us imagine how a baby might react and what they might say if they could speak. Lovely poems give voice to how little ones might communicate. Cute big eyed babies represent a variety of ethnic groups and each baby has a family environment that is representative of love and caring.

Ripples of Rain
At first, I was confused by the water on the pane.
Then I looked long and hard and realized it was rain.
It's bellowed in a puddle in the corner of the glass.
The sound is quite comforting - I really hope it lasts.
It appears to be very refreshing for the birds outside the door.
I notice many in the birdbath that I haven't seen before.
I think for a moment how special the rain can be.
And when I'm older, I'll go outside, just so we can meet.

Scenarios and poetry show what a babies response might be when he or she notices their hands for the first time, or a cousin, an alley cat, bath time and even a care ride. No stone is left unturned. This tender book of poetry would be an excellent addition to a baby's library.
